Omakase meal at Wave Sushi
This was our first omakase meal at Wave Sushi. The chef, Dave, is a freaking genius. I've had sushi at most of the well known sushi temples around the world (Sushi Jiro in Tokyo, Nobu and Jewel Bako in NYC, etc.) and this place was seriously just as good. Everything from the top grade ginger to the fish was world-class. Unfortunately, the suburbs of Sacramento were not ready for such a place, and he later closed. Sushi Jiro was probably better than this place, but I'd put it up against Jewel Bako anyday... and for 1/4 the price.
Dave's idea of cucumber rolls is cramming together monkfish liver, bluefin tuna and white tuna in paper thin cucumber. Oh and he threw fresh picked crabmeat on the end pieces, just because.
Dave overheard Jody talking about how good the bluefin was. So we got a full platter of it along with some artfully carved up cucumber
Hand rolls stuffed with fresh fried soft-shell crab. Oh my goodness...
Fresh oysters came out next. I've never had oysters that large that were still very sweet. Amazing
We told Dave that we were getting full but still enjoying the sushi. He came up with a sort of petit four arrangement of nigiri. So gooooood
We surrendered at this point. Unless I can get back out to NYC, LA or Tokyo, I'm not having sushi this good for a long time.
